Remedial Massage Therapy

Targeted therapeutic massage to identify and correct musculoskeletal imbalances, relieve chronic pain and restore healthy movement — delivered by a specialist with nearly 30 years of clinical experience.

What is Remedial Massage?

Remedial massage is a clinical, assessment-led form of massage therapy that goes beyond relaxation to address the underlying causes of pain, tension and restricted movement. Rather than applying a standard routine, Lisa begins with a thorough postural and movement assessment to identify the specific muscles, tendons and soft tissues that are contributing to your symptoms.

A combination of techniques is then applied — including deep tissue work, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, stretching and joint mobilisation — tailored precisely to your individual presentation. This targeted approach may be especially beneficial for conditions that have not responded to general massage or other treatments.

Remedial massage is used by athletes and non-athletes alike. Sessions are available in 45, 60, 75 and 90-minute durations. A full consultation is carried out before your first appointment.

It may be especially beneficial if you have tried general massage and found it helpful but not fully resolving, or if you have a specific injury or imbalance that requires a more targeted approach. A full consultation is carried out before your first session to ensure the treatment is appropriate for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between remedial massage and sports massage?

Both are clinical, deep-tissue treatments, but remedial massage places greater emphasis on postural assessment and correcting musculoskeletal imbalances. Sports massage tends to focus more on performance, recovery and injury prevention in active individuals. In practice, Lisa often draws on techniques from both disciplines within the same session, depending on what your body needs.

Will remedial massage be painful?

Remedial massage works at depth and can involve some discomfort, particularly when releasing trigger points or working through areas of significant tension. Lisa will always check in with you and adjust pressure to your tolerance. Most clients describe the sensation as a 'good hurt' — uncomfortable in the moment but with a clear sense of release.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your condition, how long you have had it and how your body responds to treatment. Acute injuries often resolve in 3–6 sessions. Chronic or postural conditions may require a longer course of treatment, with sessions spaced to allow the body to adapt. Lisa will give you a realistic expectation at your initial consultation.

Can remedial massage be combined with electrotherapy?

Yes — combining remedial massage with therapeutic ultrasound or electro medical acupuncture can significantly enhance outcomes, particularly for stubborn soft tissue injuries, nerve pain or conditions involving deep inflammation. Lisa will advise whether a combined approach is appropriate for your presentation.

Do I need a consultation before my first appointment?

Yes. A short consultation form is required before booking to ensure the treatment is appropriate for you and to allow Lisa to prepare for your session. This takes just a few minutes to complete online and is part of the booking process.
